White Label Web Development: A Practical Guide for Agencies
On this page

White label web development means another company builds the websites your agency sells, and you deliver them under your own brand. Your client signs with you, pays you and talks to you. The development partner works behind the scenes, under a written agreement that covers confidentiality, quality and who owns what.

For a marketing, SEO or design agency, it is the quickest way to say yes to more website work without hiring a development team. It also carries real risks: missed deadlines, uneven quality, and a partner who might one day approach your client. This guide explains how white label development works, how it is priced, and how to choose a partner you can trust with your clients.

What white label web development means

In a white label arrangement, the partner’s name appears nowhere: not in the site footer, not in the code, and not in emails to your client. You set the price, own the client relationship and approve the work. The partner builds to your specification and your deadlines.

Agencies that use white label developers usually fall into one of these groups:

    • Digital marketing and SEO agencies whose clients need a better website before campaigns can work
    • Design studios that create the look but don’t want to run a development team
    • Freelancers and consultants who win more work than they can build alone
    • Hosting and IT providers that want to offer websites alongside their own services

White label work is a form of outsourcing, but not all outsourcing is white label. The difference is branding and contact. In ordinary outsourcing, your client may know and speak to the supplier. In white label delivery, the supplier stays invisible to your client.

How a white label project works, step by step

Six steps of a white label web development project: the agency sends the brief, the partner scopes and estimates, the agency presents its proposal, the partner builds on staging, tests and launches, then hands over and provides care
Your agency owns the client relationship at every step; the partner works behind your brand
    1. You send the brief. Include the designs, sitemap or existing site, content, deadline and budget if you have one. The clearer the brief, the more accurate the estimate.
    2. The partner scopes it. They ask questions, flag dependencies such as plugins, integrations and hosting, and return a written scope with milestones and a price.
    3. You price it for your client. You add your margin and present the proposal under your brand.
    4. The partner builds on a staging site. You review at agreed checkpoints, and your client sees only what you choose to show.
    5. Testing and launch. The site is checked on browsers and phones, forms and payments are tested, and it goes live on your client’s hosting or yours.
    6. Handover and care. Files, logins and notes come to you. Updates and small changes can continue under a monthly care plan.

    What you can white label

Almost any part of a web project can be delivered under your brand. The most common requests are:

    • WordPress websites built with Divi, Elementor or the block editor
    • WooCommerce stores and B2B product catalogs
    • Landing pages for ad and email campaigns
    • Website redesigns and migrations from other platforms
    • Custom web applications, CRMs and ERPs, for example in Laravel or PHP
    • Speed, security and accessibility fixes on existing sites
    • Ongoing website care: updates, backups and content changes

Why agencies use white label developers

    • More capacity without more payroll. You pay per project or for agreed monthly capacity, not salaries through quiet months.
    • More services to sell. You can say yes to the website your SEO client needs or the store your ads client wants, instead of sending them elsewhere.
    • Predictable margins. A fixed partner price lets you quote your client with confidence.
    • Your team stays on its strengths: strategy, design, campaigns and client relationships.
    • Work moves while you sleep. With a partner several time zones ahead, a brief sent at the end of your day can show progress by the next morning. Pakistan, for example, is 9 to 10 hours ahead of New York and 4 to 5 hours ahead of London.

The risks, and what to agree in writing

Most white label problems start with something that was never written down. Settle these points before the first project begins.

RiskWhat to agree before work starts
Quality varies from project to projectA written definition of “done”: browsers and devices tested, speed targets, accessibility basics and a review checklist
Deadlines slipMilestones with dates, one named contact and a weekly status update
The partner contacts your clientA non-solicitation clause, no partner branding anywhere, and all client communication through you
You don’t control the code or accountsCode, design files, domains, hosting and plugin licences in your or your client’s name, handed over on final payment
Security and accessA separate login for each person, no passwords sent by email, and access removed after handover
Scope creep eats your marginA written scope with a change-request process and a price for each change

Security deserves its own checklist. Our WordPress security checklist lists 25 things to check before any site goes live.

How white label web development is priced

Partners usually offer three pricing models:

    • Fixed price per project. Best for defined websites and stores. The partner quotes against your brief, and changes are priced separately.
    • Monthly capacity. Best for a steady pipeline. You get an agreed number of hours each month, or a developer who works on your projects.
    • Care plans. A monthly fee for updates, backups, monitoring and small changes across your clients’ sites.

Whatever the model, the same things drive the price: the number of unique page layouts, custom features and integrations such as payments, bookings or a CRM, the number of products to set up, content entry and migration, how tight the deadline is, and how much support you need after launch.

Before you quote your client, confirm what the partner’s price includes. Hosting, premium plugin licences, stock images and content writing are often extra.

10-point checklist for choosing a white label partner

    1. A portfolio with live sites like the ones your clients need
    2. A written scope and estimate for every project, never a verbal price
    3. Confidentiality and non-solicitation clauses in the agreement
    4. Clear ownership of code, designs and accounts after payment
    5. One named contact and agreed response times
    6. Working hours that overlap with yours for at least part of each day
    7. A testing process you can see: devices, browsers, speed and forms
    8. A staging site for your review before anything goes live
    9. Support after launch, with what it covers written down
    10. A registered company with a track record, not just an online profile

Then start with one paid pilot project. It will tell you more about a partner than any sales call.

How Ninja Softs works with agencies

Ninja Softs is a web and software development company in Kharian, Pakistan, working since 2017 and registered with the SECP and PSEB. Through our agency partnership program, we deliver under your brand:

    • WordPress websites built with Divi, Elementor or the block editor
    • WooCommerce stores and B2B catalogs
    • Laravel and PHP applications, CRMs and ERPs through our custom software development team
    • Ongoing website care through our dedicated webmasters

You can start with one client project, set up ongoing development for a steady pipeline, or hand us the care of your clients’ sites. Before work begins, we agree in writing who talks to the client, how confidentiality works, whether we may show the work in our portfolio, and what is handed over at the end. You can send a brief by email and get a written scope and estimate. No discovery call is required.

We have built websites for businesses in the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain, as well as in Pakistan. Two examples:

Read how we redesigned the Junior Kids store and how we built a booking platform for a Danish limousine service, or browse more work in our portfolio.

    Frequently asked questions

What does white label mean in web development?

A partner builds the website, and your agency sells and delivers it under its own brand. The partner’s name does not appear on the work or in any communication with your client.

Is white label web development ethical?

Yes, as long as you deliver what you promise. Agencies have long used specialist partners for printing, hosting and development. What matters is that you stay responsible for quality, deadlines and support, and that your contract with the client allows you to use subcontractors.

    Who owns the website code?

Whoever your agreement says. Make sure the code, design files and accounts transfer to you or your client when the final payment is made.

Will my client know I used a partner?

Not unless you tell them. A white label partner leaves no credits on the site and only contacts your client if you ask it to.

How long does a white label website take?

It depends on the scope. A small brochure site usually takes a few weeks, while stores and custom applications take longer. Your partner’s written proposal should give a date for each milestone.

Can I start with a single project?

Yes, and it is the best way to start. One real project shows how a partner communicates, tests and meets deadlines before you commit more work.
